Sapphire is one of the most precious gemstones found today. The most highly prized sapphires are deep blue in colour and are known as cornflower blue. More recently, other colour sapphires have become popular such as the pink padparadscha sapphire, which is a gorgeous pink colour and obviously one of our favourites! Sapphires are also available in yellow, green, white, purple, and orange.

Sapphires are one of the hardest minerals, measuring 9 on the Mohs scale, second only to diamonds, making them an exceptional choice for jewellery. Sapphires symbolise wisdom, virtue, good fortune, and holiness for royals. They are also believed to protect against envy and harm. 

One of the most famous sapphires is The Star of India. It is a 563.35-carat star sapphire and was mined in Sri Lanka. It is housed in the American Museum of Natural History in New York.
